We are pleased to announce the third annual TIAA-CREF All-Star Collegiate Jazz Ensemble, which will be hosted by UNC Charlotte on October 3-5, 2008. You are invited to audition to participate in this weekend of education and inspiration. TIAA-CREF is funding this event, which will provide the opportunity for students filling the standard instrumentation big band to experience intensive rehearsals and a performance with other outstanding college students enrolled with full-time status at schools in North and South Carolina.  Students who are selected to perform in the ensemble will be given stipends to help cover the cost of their travel, meal, and accommodations.

Mike Steinel, a faculty member at the University of North Texas, has agreed to be the clinician for the weekend. As a faculty member in their prestigious Jazz Studies area of the UNT College of Music, Mr. Steinel has had the opportunity to work with some of the country's finest young jazz musicians. He is also in great demand as a guest artist,  adjudicator and clinician, and authored Building A Jazz Vocabulary and Essential Elements for Jazz Ensemble. For more information on Mike Steinel, please click here.

The first rehearsal will take place Friday evening, with intensive rehearsals and sectional clinics on Saturday. Following two days of preparation, the TIAA-CREF All-Star Collegiate Jazz Ensemble will perform in UNC Charlotte's Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts on the afternoon of October 5. While we invite an unlimited number of your students to audition, a maximum of six students from any school will be accepted to insure that as many schools as possible benefit from this event.
