The UNC Charlotte Saxophone Quartet (with coach Reese Manceaux, pictured below) performed  at the national conference of the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) in Columbia, SC in April 2008. They performed the world premiere of Dr. Walter S. Hartley's "Suite No. 3" for saxophone quartet in addition to Mintzer's Quartet No. 1. Pictured above (from L to R) is Dr. William Campbell (professor of saxophone and director of Jazz Ensembles at UNC Charlotte), Chris Rocca (baritone sax), Josh Lancaster (tenor sax), Michael Harvey (alto sax), John Page (soprano sax), and Dr. Walter S. Hartley.

The 2008 edition of the Charlotte Youth Wind Ensemble was a great success, thanks in no small part to the efforts of (from left to right): Neil Underwood (North Lincoln High School); Larry Wells (Northwestern High School)-guest conductor; Dr. Larry Marks (UNC Charlotte)-conductor, Brian Balmages-guest conductor/composer, Stan Michalski-guest conductor, and Blair Smith (Jay M. Robinson High School)--Percussion Ensemble conductor.

The Wind Ensemble's program included Joseph Wilcox Jenkins' American Overture for Band; Steven Bryant's Dusk; Ney Rosauro's Concerto for Vibraphone and Wind Ensemble, Mvt. III (Jason Piers, soloist); Nathan Daughtrey's Mercury Rising (for Percussion Ensemble): David Maris' American Flute Salute (Molly Underwood, soloist); Bryan Balmages' Fusion; and Julie Ann Giroux's La Mazquita de Cordoba.
