Are you interested in performing
with a Symphonic Band?

The Symphonic Band is under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Whitaker (click for questions sent by email).

The Symphonic Band utilizes a simpler audition procedure with scales and a short sight reading example required for chair assignment.

The Symphonic Band includes music majors and , non-music majors from throughout the University.  The Symphonic Band will meet Tue/Thurs. afternoons, 5:00 to 6:15 in Room 210, Robinson Hall.

The Symphonic Band has been designed to provide another performance option for non-music majors who may not be able to schedule Symphonic Wind Ensemble. The Symphonic Band rehearses and performs a wide variety of band literature, grades V-VI, often featuring student and faculty soloists under the direction of various conductors. The Symphonic Band will perform both on and off the UNC-Charlotte campus and give two concerts per semester.

Dr. Jennifer Whitaker received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from George Mason University and the Master of Music Education and Ph.D. in Music Education from Louisiana State University. She was a public school band director in Virginia and Louisiana. Whitaker teaches courses in instrumental methods, supervises student teachers, and conducts the University Concert Band. While her research interests are varied, her primary focus is student and teacher perceptions of teaching behaviors. Whitaker has presented research papers at regional, national, and international conferences.
