ABOUT US

The Choral Program at UNC Charlotte is a dynamic and growing vocal performance component of the Department of Music under the auspices of the College of Arts + Architecture. The program offers opportunities for students, faculty & staff, as well as members of the community to participate in many ensembles that meet their interests, ability, and experience.

Singers will easily find a chorus that will meet their interests and levels of achievement - from beginners exploring the choral art for the first time to experienced choristers with exacting tastes.


Program Purpose


The purpose of the Choral Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is to:

  1. Provide Music majors with large ensemble performance experience and skills commensurate with professional expectations in their field.
  2. Provide Choral Music Education majors with a conducting lab and a literature experience designed to define and augment their professional knowledge in their field.
  3. Provide a public image of performance excellence for the Department of Music as well as the entire University.
  4. Serve as a recruitment vehicle for the Department of Music, the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as the entire university.
  5. Provide a social network and serve as a cultural outlet for university students, faculty, and the public of the University City area.
  6. Serve as an agent for the practice, performance, and advocacy of the choral music art in area schools and the community at large.

Program Philosophy

The philosophy that guides the implementations of the above purposes is contained in the following precepts:

  1. All endeavors will be implemented to the highest standards prevalent in collegiate choral programs.
  2. Each component of the choral music program will have a unique and key purpose that directly addresses one or more of the above-stated purposes.
  3. The Choral Program will foster a safe, inclusive, diverse, productive, vital and collegial atmosphere.
  4. The Choral Program will engender fiscal responsibility, responsible stewardship of resources, efficiency and efficacy, as well as model active citizenship and advocacy.
